Mike

Instrument(s):
Drums
Nickname(s): I try to avoid them
Music: Wow, where do I start? Alternative (Paramore, Anberlin, Better Than Ezra, Avril Lavigne, Michelle Branch, The BoDeans…..), (Alt/Metal (Linkin Park, Godsmack, Evanesence, Chris Cornell…), Grunge (Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains…) Misc Rock (Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Pat Benetar, Sting…), Punk/New Wave
I also love The Blues(Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, the Nighthawks, …) and I’m VERY into Trance (many of the sub-genres). Someday I want to go to one of those huge Rave’s in the Neitherlands with like 20,000 people…
Story: I’ve played drums seriously since I was 12 and music has been my passion ever since I can remember. I played in bands throughout high school and college and although career and family put a halt to the bands, I never stopped playing. I just couldn’t take it anymore– this frustrated musician has got to Rock!
A few years ago, I sold my large acoustic set and now play Roland Electronic V-Drums. They sound better than my old drums ever did and now I can play without walls shaking and at any time of the day or night.

Arwen

arwen

Instrument(s): Lead Vocals, Keyboard
Nickname(s):
Arface, Rain Man, Ween… I can’t believe these are public knowledge now.
Music:
The Black Crowes, NIN, The Baby Animals, Incubus (preferably pre-1999)
Story:
I’m a former a cappella nerd that graduated college and desperately missed the sound of actual instruments. I’ve been singing since about age 3 (and there are embarrassing tapes to prove it) and played piano for about 13 years. I’m hoping one day to upgrade from the regular keyboard/synth to a “key-tar.” I do my best vocal work in my giant Volvo station wagon and I’ve been known to bust out some pretty horrifying amazing dance moves during performances.

Instrument(s):
bass, vocals, and if you’re lucky, i’ll play saxophone for you
Nickname(s): I just give them out (today, Steve is “Pedals”)
Music: Bouncing Souls, They Might Be Giants, The Lawrence Arms
Story: I come from a long line of nomadic, passive-aggressive bass players from southern New England, having also done a little time in Ohio, until settling into the inviting embrace of northern Virginia’s robust economy and high rental prices. I grew up being inspired by (read : copying) the endless waves of great 90′s punk rock bands, as well as other random things like TMBG and Royal Crown Revue, before setting out to form some great new bands, or simply piggyback off the accomplishments of others. To this day, I have never been replaced or thrown out of a band, a streak I intend to protect with Elementary by adding extremely difficult, never-before-heard-notes to our songs like “H sharp” and “B minus”. (Please don’t tell the others I am doing this.) I play a red Fender bass colored with either red paint, or the blood of those who have opposed me — I don’t remember which.

Steve

Instrument(s):
Guitar, Vocals
Nickname(s): Feathers, Stever
Music: The Beatles, Nirvana, Max Martin
Story: I’m a total nerd and proud of it. I’ve lived all over the United States thanks to my family’s military status. My family is also musical: one grandfather was a drummer in the Navy Band and the other was a high school band teacher. I started out on piano before gradually moving onto drums, guitar, bass guitar and then singing. My twin brother also plays guitar, but it’s up to you to figure out who the evil twin is. I absolutely NEED to songwrite in order to keep sane. My main axes are a Warmoth Stratocaster (Batman) and a Fender/Warmoth Musicmaster (Robin), both super-customized. I also use a Sigma Acoustic, Godin Electric/Acoustic or Fender/Warmoth Telecaster when called for
